Blue Duck Tavern (Washington DC)

We went to the Mother's Day Brunch at the Blue Duck Tavern (24th & M Street, NW, Washington DC, at the Park Hyatt) with the exquisite decoration by Toni Chi, the same one that is decorating the new Westin Hotel in Lima. Like on other occasions, the experience was fantastic, although as time goes by, details start to fade and the place is no longer impeccable because of lack of sufficient maintenance.

At any rate, it is highly recommended for those who visit Washington. The culinary concept is based on utilizing the best ingredients that the US can offer to make even the simplest dishes look refined. For example, something as simple as french fries requires a very careful elaboration and until perfection is achieved. The meats are carefully chosen among the very best ranches in the US. The wild mushrooms are extremely fine. And so on. The result is american food brought to a level that approaches french food, something we always thought impossible.

The wine list is very complete and well chosen, but all wines are expensive (wines by the glass start at US$14), and given that the plates are also relatively expensive, the bill ends up being high but worth it. Definitely this is a place to be recommended and all sophisticated dinners that visit Washington should stop there.
